Job Description:
Working under the direction of the Library Director and designated library supervisors, the Library Aide is responsible to assist librarians with a variety of clerical tasks.
Mandatory Requirements for all Town Employees:
A) You are required to understand and abide-by all safety work practices for yourself and your co-workers.
B) You are required to understand and use customer service best practices when dealing with the public, peers and co-workers by treating everyone fairly, with understanding, empathy, and professionalism.
Duties and
Responsibilities:
The Library Aide is to perform the following duties and responsibilities including but not limited to the following:
Use integrated library computer system to check out and return library materials.
Assist the public with computerized software/databases.
Answer telephone and on-site questions.
Shelve library materials and maintain orderly arrangement of materials on shelves.
Assist in processing materials by covering paperback books, replacing labels, and protective covers.
Mends slightly damaged books and magazines.
Clean audiovisual materials prior to re-shelving Assist in preparation of displays.
Prepare craft items for use in story hours and/or special programs.
Print and fold informational brochures.
Supervisory
Responsibilities:
None required.
Specific Knowledge and Skills Required:
High School Diploma/GED preferred; current high school juniors or seniors will be considered.
Enjoy working with and interacting with the general public.
Ability to relate to and interact well with children (Children's Library Aide).
Excellent computer skills.
Must be able to learn new software.
Ability to deal tactfully and effectively with the public and co-workers.
Ability to perform under pressure.
Must demonstrate flexibility with tasks schedule.
Strong organizational skills.
Must be willing to obtain training as needed or directed.
